What Happens During a Contact Lens Exam & Fitting?
Sometimes contacts suit the occasion better, like if you lead an active lifestyle or when you want to change up your look. If you’d like to try something new or need to update your prescription, we’ll book you in for a contact lens exam and fitting.
Our team strives to keep our contact lens eye exams straightforward. During your exam and fitting, we’ll assess your prescription (did you know your contact lens prescription differs from your glasses prescription?). We’ll also evaluate your eye health and suggest contacts suited to your specific needs.

Request AppointmentAre Contact Lenses for Me?
Contact lenses are a great option, especially if you want to change up your style, have specific vision needs, or are active. Imagine playing sports or going hiking without pushing your glasses up your nose or wiping the elements off your lenses.
We also offer specialty contact lenses for patients with vision conditions such as astigmatism or keratoconus. Contact lenses can offer clearer vision if you have irregularly shaped corneas.
Our Technology
We use innovative technology to recommend the correct contacts for you. Corneal topography is a noninvasive tool we use to map the surface of your cornea. Corneal topography is essential for fitting contacts if your cornea is shaped differently, like when you have astigmatism or keratoconus.
Having a unique cornea shape can affect how contact lenses fit and feel. The more information we have, the better we can recommend contacts that suit you.
Additionally, corneal topography can help us diagnose and monitor eye conditions, like corneal injuries, that can affect vision.
Our Lenses
Whether you’re hiking our local trails or enjoying the Old Towne Arvada Farmers’ Market, contact lenses can offer greater clarity—not to mention crisp peripheral vision.
We’re here to help you find the contact lenses that suit your vision and your lifestyle. Your comfort is our priority. In your contact lens exam, we’re happy to walk you through the options that make sense for you and answer any questions.
Scleral Lenses
Scleral lenses can be a great contact lens option for people living with severe dry eyes or those with irregular corneas.
Scleral lenses rest on your sclera (the white of your eye), creating more space between your corneas and the lenses. This space is filled with moisture, which can help soothe your eyes if you’re experiencing dry eye, corneal injury, or scarring.
We offer Zenlens, customizable soft contact lenses. Zenlens are generally recommended for patients with irregular cornea shapes, such as those with astigmatism or keratoconus.
Ortho-K Lenses
Orthokeratology (ortho-k) lenses are designed to gently reshape your corneas while you sleep, resulting in clear vision during the day.
They’re made for people with myopia (nearsightedness). Worn overnight and removed in the morning, ortho-k allows you to experience clear vision without needing glasses or contacts throughout the day.
Aspheric Lenses
Aspheric lenses are flatter than normal lenses. Because of their shape, they can offer clear vision with less distortion and can also improve peripheral vision.
Generally, we prescribe these lenses to patients who play sports, have trouble seeing in low light, or experience symptoms of presbyopia. Presbyopia is the natural, although annoying, loss of ability to clearly see objects at about arm’s-length. It typically starts to develop in your 40s.
Toric Lenses
We prescribe toric lenses to people with astigmatism. Astigmatism is when your cornea is shaped differently, with uneven curvature across the eye’s front surface. Because of this, regular contact lenses may not fit you well or comfortably.
Astigmatism can cause blurry vision, making it difficult to see up close or far away, depending on your astigmatism.
Toric lenses have different strengths in different areas to help you see clearly, so a contact lens exam and fitting is essential. We’ll check that these lenses fit you properly during your fitting and make any necessary adjustments to help you achieve clearer vision.
Multifocal Lenses
Multifocal lenses are designed so patients can see at various distances while using one pair of contacts.
Some vision issues, like presbyopia (difficulty seeing objects up close), occur naturally as we age. When your vision issues also include myopia (difficulty seeing objects far away) or astigmatism (irregularly shaped corneas), multifocal lenses become a great choice.
Multifocal lenses can eliminate the need for multiple pairs of glasses. One pair of contacts can have two or more prescriptions, allowing you to easily alternate between different activities.
Hybrid Lenses
Hybrid lenses are made of both hard and soft materials. They feature a rigid gas-permeable (hard) center and soft edges, making them often feel more comfortable than traditional hard lenses.
Because hard contacts can reduce distortions, the design of hybrid lenses can also increase the clarity of your vision. We recommend them for patients with astigmatism, keratoconus, and other corneal irregularities or injuries.
